Shaukat Ali Khan, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Moscow, said his country was connected to the “Pakistan Stream” gas pipeline project, adding that Moscow and Islamabad were currently discussing legal issues.
Shaukat Ali Khan, quoted by the “Novosti” news agency, said, “So far there is no specific date (for finishing work on the project).
The Pakistan Stream gas pipeline is expected to connect the LNG receiving infrastructure at the ports of Karachi and Gwadar in southern Pakistan to power stations and industrial facilities in the Qusour (Punjab) region in the north of the country. According to the project, the pipeline will be more than 1.1 thousand kilometers long and have a capacity of 12.3 billion cubic meters per year. Russian Energy Minister Nikolai Shulgenov said the capacity of the project was more and it would reach 16 billion cubic meters.
The agreement between the governments of Russia and Pakistan on the implementation of the gas pipeline construction project was signed in October 2015, and the document provides for the use of Russian materials, technologies and services. In March 2022, Shulginon announced that Russia hopes to sign a shareholders agreement to implement this project in the near future.
