The French General Staff has announced that the French army will officially withdraw from the Menaka military base in northeastern Mali, as the departure from this base represents the penultimate stage of the withdrawal of the French Barhan forces from the country.

“French soldiers will leave Mali forever at the end of the summer with the handover of their main stronghold in Gao to the Malian armed forces,” General Pascal Iani, spokesman for the General Staff, said during a press conference. This is reported by the French news agency.

The French General Staff recently announced that it had officially handed over the Gossy base in northern Mali to the Malian armed forces.

It is worth noting that in February last year, France announced the withdrawal of its troops from Mali and the cessation of military operations against armed groups, as the northern regions of Mali are experiencing waves of violence and attacks after the military coup in 2012, as the violence led to the control of armed groups in some areas.

Military action carried out by French and African troops (4,500 soldiers), in addition to the efforts of the Malian army, managed to disperse the militants, but Mali still witnesses armed and military actions in some areas, despite the signing of a number of peace agreements. .
