The head of the Syrian Ministerial Coordinating Committee, Hussein Makhlouf, during a joint meeting of the Ministerial Coordinating Bodies of Syria and Russia on the return of Syrian refugees and displaced persons, stressed that “the Syrian and Russian coordinating bodies are striving to return the largest number of Syrian refugees and displaced persons, and this goal is a priority for Syria”, explaining that “the number of returnees since the establishment of the Joint Commission in 2018 amounted to more than two and a half million people.

Makhlouf pointed out that “the Turkish occupation continues to support terrorists and plunder the wealth of Syria, and its talk of the so-called (safe zone) is described aggression, while the American occupation is the first cause of the suffering of the Syrian people and deprive them of resources.”

Makhlouf stressed that “Syria will move forward in the process of fighting terrorism and occupation and will work to return every refugee and displaced person to their homeland, and we will continue the reconstruction process.”

In turn, the head of the Coordinating Council of Ministers of Russia and the head of the National Defense Control Center, Mikhail Mizintsev, confirmed in a remote speech that “his country will continue to provide comprehensive support to Syria in order to restore normal life, fight terrorism and resist Western sanctions.”

Mizintsev stressed that “illegal Western sanctions imposed on Syria prevent the return of displaced persons and refugees and exacerbate the suffering of the Syrian people, indicating that the US and its allies refuse to coordinate with Syria the delivery of humanitarian aid to those who deserve it while they use the camp Rukban as a recruiting base for terrorists.”

It is noteworthy that a joint meeting of the Syrian and Russian ministerial coordinating bodies began this morning at the Umayyad Conference Palace as part of the fourth meeting following the results of the International Conference on the Return of Syrian Refugees. and displaced persons, with the participation of representatives of the United Nations, the International Committee of the Red Cross and other humanitarian organizations.
