Australia promised on Sunday to increase military support to Ukraine, specifically by sending new armored vehicles, according to Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, the first Australian government chief to travel to kyiv.
Australia’s additional military support to Ukraine, to end the war with Russia, which invaded Ukrainian territory on February 24, was announced by Anthony Albanese at a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in kyiv.
Albanian said the Australia intends to go ahead with new economic sanctions against Russiasuch as the ban on the importation of Russian gold, and the ban on the stay in Australian territory of another 16 Russian ministers and oligarchs, in a total of 843 people and 62 entities.
The President of Ukraine thanked “the considerable help, particularly in the field of defence”, provided by Australia.
Before the press conference, the Australian prime minister visited the cities of Bucha, Irpin and Gostomel, on the outskirts of the Ukrainian capital, kyiv.
“Clearly, civilian areas were targeted by Russian forces in this immoral and illegal war,” said Anthony Albanese, adding that the Russian president, Vladimir Putin will have “the welcome he deserves” to participate in November, in Indonesia, in the G20 summit (group of the 19 largest economies in the world and the European Union).
Putin has already confirmed his presence at the summit.
