A spokesman for the British Army said that “the army’s Twitter and YouTube accounts were electronically hacked, which was flooded with content offering gifts and contests”, explaining that “the name of the social media account has changed several times as it included changing new avatars of a monkey with a face reminiscent of the character of the villain (Joker) from the Batman film series, as well as a cartoon robot.

He added, “The publication encouraged subscribers to participate and join contests, and winners are randomly selected to receive (NFTs), which are digital works of art stored in a database.” He confirmed that “the army’s YouTube channel has also been hacked and replaced with an account promoting multiple live streams claiming to show an interview with (Tesla) founder Elon Musk about cryptocurrencies.”

The director explained: “It is not yet known who is behind the cyberattacks, but the unfortunate breach raises serious concerns about the security of the military and suggests that other social media accounts may be at risk.”
