The Jerusalem Post reported that “the Cypriot authorities have begun the process of purchasing the Israeli Iron Dome air defense system. And it is reported, citing the Greek media, that “Cyprus and Israel have signed the necessary agreements as part of this deal, without giving any other details about the number of batteries purchased by Cyprus and when they will arrive on the island.”

The newspaper pointed out that “the Israeli iron dome is a joint Israeli-American invention, and its sale requires the approval of both parties.” International media have previously announced plans to sell this system to Ukraine, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, but this information has not been confirmed. In 2019, the US purchased two Iron Dome batteries.

In Siq, the media said that “the Cypriot authorities will use these systems to counter the potential threat from Turkey, including drones that can be launched from both northern Cyprus and Turkish territory.”
