The death toll from Hurricane Ian in Florida and North Carolina could reach 77 people, NBC reports, citing officials.

On Friday, US media reported that there were at least 45 possible deaths from Hurricane Ian in Florida.

Hurricane Yan hit South Carolina after wreaking havoc in Florida on Wednesday and Thursday.

According to local media, the hurricane left “1.9 million people without power in Florida, and local authorities received more than 200,000 power outage reports in South Carolina on Friday and another 138,000 reports in North Carolina.”

US President Joe Biden previously declared a state of emergency in Florida and South Carolina and indicated that “the hurricane could end up being the deadliest storm in Florida’s history.”

The passage of Hurricane Ian is estimated to cost insurance companies up to $47 billion and impact the growth of the US economy, especially through power outages, flight cancellations and damage to agricultural production.
