Filipe Albuquerque was fifth and dropped to second place in the American championship

Portuguese driver Filipe Albuquerque finished fifth in the penultimate race of the North American endurance championship. “The last race of the year will be interesting,” he anticipated.

The Portuguese driver Filipe Albuquerque (Acura) was fifth this Sunday in the penultimate race of the North American Endurance Championship (IMSA) and dropped to second place in it.

The driver from Coimbra, who works alongside the American Ricky Taylor, finished in fifth position, 100.008 minutes behind the winner, Nick Tandi (Porsche), after 2h40 of the race.

“It was a difficult day. When things start bad, they rarely turn out right. We started fifth, far back on the grid. The problem was a car that spun in front of us and we got stuck behind it and came last. I still overtook three cars, but I made some touches and damaged the car a little,” explained Filipe Albuquerque, quoted by his press service.

With this result, Wayne Taylor’s team fell to second place in the championship. “We are second, three points away, which is nothing. The last race of the year will be interesting”Albuquerque stressed.

In LMP3, the third most important category, the Portuguese Guilherme de Oliveira (Ligier) was fourth, 18th overall. In the same category, João Barbosa (Ligier) was sixth, 21st overall.

The last race of the championship will be the 10 Hours of Petit Le Mans, on October 13 and 14.
