The PCP accuses the Government of being slow in layoffs but slow for police and immigrants

Paulo Raimundo referred to the dismissals of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia and the PSP and condemned the Government’s slowness to “resolve the concrete problems” of immigrants and the security forces.

The general secretary of the PCP accused the Government on Tuesday of being slow to dismiss but slow to resolve the situation of police and immigrants, and criticized the executive’s proposal aimed at teachers and security forces.

“We have a Government that is so fast, so fast in firing the supplier of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia, the National Directorate of the PSP, and in relocating people of interest to those places, and so slow, so confused, and so confused in resolving the concrete problems. of both security forces, or the thousands and thousands of immigrant cases that are still to be resolved,” accused Paulo Raimundo, at a rally at the Jardim da República, in Santarém.

In his speech, the PCP leader highlighted that the Immigrants are “targets of the most varied discrimination” and are subject to working conditions that are “more precarious, more difficult and more unacceptable than those of all other” workers.

Paulo Raimundo condemned once again, without “thinking about words,” the attacks on immigrants that occurred on Friday in Porto, highlighting that “unfortunately they were not isolated cases,” and maintained that “these crimes cannot be allowed to become normalized.”

“This is also the time to condemn the monster that gives voice to all these events and, after they have occurred, comes to shed crocodile tears as if they had nothing to do with it,” he stated, in implicit allusion to Chega, who was never explicitly named. .

Throughout the speech, the general secretary of the PCP made several criticisms of the Government, which he accused of making a “victimization strategy”at the same time “who seeks, every day, justifications for not fulfilling the promises he made during the electoral campaign.”

“In fact, in case there were any doubts, the proposals made to the security forces regarding the attribution of the risk subsidy, or the proposals made to teachers regarding the supposed recognition of seniority, for which they want acquired rights in exchange, are proof of it. of this same strategy,” he stated.

Raimundo focused part of his intervention on the issue of salaries, highlighting that these do not increase “with tax reforms or cuts in Security contributions”, but only if their real value actually increases.

The general secretary of the PCP defended that it is not “worth it” for the Government to come up with the conversation that “first you have to grow the economy, then increase productivity and then, if there is a nice day and if it doesn’t rain, “Maybe it is possible to increase salaries.”

“This is the complete opposite of reality: the economy has grown, productivity has been growing for 20 years, profits are rising, the price of essential goods is rising…. Everything is growing, the only thing that is not really growing is wages. So, stop this conversation, put this conversation wherever you want,” he stated.

Next, Raimundo referred to the new budget rules of the European Union, which came into force last week, stating that they will involve “cuts in public spending of 2.8 billion euros.”

“Where will this spending cut be? “Will it be in tax benefits for large companies, will it be in public-private partnerships, particularly in bus stations, or will there be leftovers for the SNS, for salaries, careers and public services?” he asked. highlighting that the regulations were approved in the European Parliament with the favorable vote of PS, PSD and CDS and leaving a challenge to the media.

“Let’s ask the PS, the PSD, the CDS, Chega and the IL: why do they agree with the new budget rules, with the implications that this has for the lives of each of us? The parties committed to these options will have to respond to this,” he stated.

Paulo Raimundo ended his speech by making a strong call for the mobilization of PCP militants for the European elections and highlighted that popular participation in the celebrations of April 25 and in the demonstration on May 1 gives “unbreakable confidence” to the CDU.
