China extends visa stay period for foreign residents of Macau

The period of stay was extended to 180 days and residents are exempt from presenting round-trip tickets and hotel reservations, as was previously the case.

China announced the extension, starting this Wednesday, of the stay period for 180 days for foreign residents of Macau with multiple entry visas to the country.

The measure includes permanent and non-permanent foreign residents of Macau who move “to mainland China for short-term tourism, trade, family visits, sightseeing and other activities“, indicates information published on the website of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in the Special Administrative Region (SAR) of Macao.

Foreign residents in Macau “can apply for multiple entry visas with a validity period of five years and a period of stay not exceeding 180 days,” it added.

Previously, the period of stay was 90 days.

The measure also establishes that foreign residents in Macau are exempt from presenting round-trip tickets and hotel reservationspreviously required when applying for a visa.

It is possible to obtain permanent resident status in Macau after seven consecutive years of habitual residence and permanent domicile in the territory, before or after the establishment of the Macau SAR, on December 20, 1999, following the transfer of the administration of Portugal to China.
