A man was charged by parliamentary police with 30 crimes of assault and robbery against Algerian and Moroccan immigrants in Porto. With twenty accomplices, he invaded a residence, attacked and threatened immigrants with weapons.
The Prosecutor’s Office (MP) charged a man with 30 crimes, half of them against physical integrity, allegedly committed against immigrants of Algerian and Moroccan nationality in the Bonfim area, in the center of Porto, in May of this year.
In a note published this Wednesday on the website, the Porto District Prosecutor General’s Office (PGDP) states that the parliamentarian “considered strongly accused” that, in the early hours of May 3, “The accused, along with other people in his personal relationship, carried out a previously drawn up plan, with the objective of carrying out acts of violence against immigrants of Algerian and Moroccan nationality residing in Porto.”
“In order to intimidate, punish and attack them, considering them responsible for crimes against property committed against family members or acquaintances, specifically in Campo 24 de Agosto [Porto]”says the PGDP, citing the deputy’s accusation.
At 00:35 that morning, the accused and the remaining elements, “About 20 people went to a house where at least 10 immigrants lived”.
“Once we got there, They broke down the door, entered the interior, where they destroyed several objects that were there, using bats, baseball bats, sticks and a hammer.which forced the neighbors to flee or hide in the different rooms of the house. Under these circumstances, the accused and these subjects attacked three victims using the instruments they were carrying,” indicates the PGDP.
According to the prosecution, before leaving the residence, those involved They took 630 euros and one of their passports from two of the victims.
A few minutes later, at 00:48, “the accused and around four individuals went to Campo 24 de Agosto where they surprised two immigrants on the public road and attacked them with baseball bats,” adds the PGDP.
That morning, at 2:45 a.m., according to the MP, “the accused and four other individuals went to a restaurant establishment where they surprised and attacked two other immigrants and threatened them.”
Outside the establishment, “they attacked another immigrant and threatened him with an apparent firearm, stealing his documents, bank cards and cell phone,” the note reads.
Half an hour later, Around 3:15 a.m., the accused was located by the PSP and detained after being chased..
The accused is charged with 30 crimes: 15 of crimes against qualified physical integrity (eight in the form of an attempt), one of trespassing or alteration of private life, one of damage with violence, three of robbery, eight of aggravated coercion , one of threat and the other of possession of a prohibited weapon.
The man is subject to a coercive measure that forces him to remain at home, controlled by electronic surveillance.
The PGDP affirms that “the criminal responsibility of the rest of the people who accompanied this defendant and the possible commission of the crime of incitement to hatred and violence is a matter of independent investigation.”
The indictment was issued on October 31 by the MP of the Porto District – Department of Investigation and Criminal Action (DIAP – 1st section).
