The Chicago police union head has endorsed Republican Darren Bailey for governor of Illinois as the city grapples with rising crime.
Speaking at an event in O’Fallon, Chief of Police Lodge 7 Brother Order John Catanzara said State Senator Bailey would make a better governor than incumbent JB Pritzker.
“One of our first conversations was about pensions and pensions concerns, and promises made must be kept,” Catanzara said.
“I don’t know everything about everything. I need a level of knowledge.”
Bailey advocated a tough crime-fighting platform, opposing the government’s cashless collateral model known as the SAFE-T Act.
“These men and women who serve in law enforcement are heroes,” Bailey said this week. “Unfortunately, Mayor Lightfoot, Gov. JB Pritzker and other elite radicals in our state are our police as enemies.”

Bailey also called for the reinstatement of the death penalty for police killers.
“Both so-called reform packages make it harder to prosecute murder accomplices and allow anonymous, sworn complaints against law enforcement,” Bailey said. Said.
Darren Bailey easily won the Republican gubernatorial primary in June, taking 57 percent of the vote against his opponents.
“Friends, your voice has finally been heard tonight. The voice of working families, parents, taxpayers, law enforcement and ordinary citizens,” Bailey said after his first win. “Our movement has sent a clear message to the establishment and the political elite tonight: We will not be ignored.”
