The PCP wants “all the clarifications” after the resignation of Miguel Alves. IL attacks Costa’s behavior

The PCP considered this Thursday that “it is necessary” to provide “all the clarifications” and “take the necessary consequences” after the resignation of Secretary of State Miguel Alves, accused by the Public Ministry of the crime of prevarication.

“Faced with the resignation of Secretary of State Miguel Alves, the PCP reaffirms that it is necessary that all the clarifications be provided, that the investigation be carried out and the necessary consequences be drawn,” defended the PCP Parliamentary Group, in a brief note sent to the newsrooms

Livre argues that the lack of explanations of Miguel Alves justifies the dismissal

Livre’s sole deputy considered that the lack of explanations regarding Miguel Alves’ decisions when he was mayor of Caminha justified his resignation from the position of Undersecretary of State to the Prime Minister.

However, in statements to the Lusa agency, Rui Tavares recalled the “humanity” of Miguel Alves, who in his duties as Secretary of State met with farmer Luís Dias, who was on a hunger strike for about a month in front of the official residence of the prime minister. .

“I have to point out that during the period in which he was Secretary of State, our fellow citizen Luís Dias went on a hunger strike and that he helped unblock it. And, therefore, I think that this should not be forgotten because at the time I asked the Prime Minister if he intended to contact this fellow citizen of ours and the Prime Minister told me directly that he did not, which actually left me quite surprised”, he is stressed.

Despite this, Rui Tavares affirmed that the reasons that justified the departure are “relevant and serious”. “Finally, the unexplained up to now of the decisions he took as mayor of Caminha justifies his resignation,” he concluded.

IL considers Costa’s behavior the “great problem of Portuguese democracy”

The Liberal Initiative (IL) considered that the behavior of the Prime Minister “begins to be the great problem of Portuguese democracy”, arguing that, also in the case of Miguel Alves, António Costa prolonged the situation “much beyond what is acceptable ”.

The Liberal Initiative had already said earlier this week that it was no longer a Miguel Alves issue, that was resolved, it was a matter of time before Miguel Alves had to leave the Government, the issue is António Costa,” he said when speaking. to the Lusa agency, deputy and leader of IL Rui Rocha on the resignation of the Deputy Secretary of State of the Prime Minister.

In the opinion of the Liberal deputy, the President of the Government has “unacceptable behavior in several situations”, giving as examples the case of incompatibilities, this specific case of Miguel Alves and the way in which António Costa “treats and relates to the other parties”, which is to say, “with profound arrogance and with a profound lack of a sense of responsibility, a sense of the State and a sense of democracy”.

“That is beginning to be the great problem of Portuguese democracy, it is the behavior of António Costa who does not respect the institutions, who does not respect the Portuguese and who degrades Portuguese democracy,” he accused.

For Rui Rocha, also a candidate for the direction of IL, in the case of the Secretary of State who left the Government this Thursday, António Costa had the “typical behavior” of “prolonging these situations much beyond what is acceptable.”

“António Costa reveals a deep contempt for the elementary principles of democracy, corrodes institutions, António Costa is a problem for Portuguese democracy at this time,” he accused.
