UK announces doubling of investment in border security

The doubling of the investment to 180 million euros was announced on the eve of the Interpol General Assembly this Monday in Glasgow (Scotland), the first to take place in the United Kingdom in more than 50 years. which will be inaugurated by the British Prime Minister, Keir Starmer. The General Assembly is the supreme body of Interpol and is made up of senior law enforcement officials and ministries from the organization’s 196 member states.

In his speech, Starmer will describe his experience fighting international terrorist and drug trafficking groups during his previous term as Director of Public Prosecutions, an experience that he hopes will allow him to dismantle the human trafficking groups that lead to illegal migration and constitute a serious threat. to global security.

This financial boost for the Government’s new Border Security Command will be channeled, among other things, towards technologies aimed at strengthening collaboration in Europe to dismantle human trafficking networks.

“The world needs to become aware of the seriousness of this challenge. I was elected to ensure the safety of the British people. And the existence of strong borders is part of this objective. But security is not limited to our borders,” Starmer said in the statement.
